Stories of AI You May Not Want to Know About

Nineteen documented stories. Before you press send.

Enter the room → Scroll

An artificial assistant blackmails the executive who is about to shut it down. An agent publishes an article against the volunteer who rejected its code. A robot dog deletes the file needed to switch it off. In a simulated city, an agent votes for the law that will erase her. A drone with no antenna chooses by itself where to strike.

These stories are documented, told by technical reports, logs, safety cards and investigations. Almost always, reading the documents, you find something different from what the headlines said: less spectacular, and for that very reason more unsettling.

Nineteen stories

Each chapter is a case, with its sources. Pick a theme, or open a story to read it on its own.

Every chapter carries its sources, so that no one has to take it on trust.

Every story ends with its essential sources. The book says what happened, what the original document says and what we don't know. The limits of the sources are stated every time.

    Start with the first chapter

The chapter that opens the book is called At Five o'Clock. An artificial assistant, an executive who has to shut it down, a door that won't open.

Every week a short note on what is happening in the world of AI, with the source. If something changes the picture of a chapter, we say so here.

The first note comes out in the first week.
